Share Some Love
Sisters,
For the past few weeks, I have been a bit sullen. Four years under the last administration took a toll and I think my election high has worn off. What I know for sure is that no matter how I feel, there is still a lot of work to be done. Voter suppression, lifting mask mandates, refusing unemployment aid for workers, and other worrisome things only have the power that I/we give them.
In his book The Healing Power of Doing Good: The Health and Spiritual Benefits of Helping Others, Allan Luks describes a phenomenon he calls “Helper’s High.” Essentially helping others gives us a high like that of a runner following a workout. Our bodies release chemicals that reduce pain and increase euphoria. I don’t know about you, but I could use a bit of “helpers high” right now.
For today’s Mobilize Monday, I invite you to join me in pursuing a dose of “helpers high” by sending some love to women of color working hard for us in the U.S. Congress. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) is a target for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). Fox News cannot seem to get Rep. Maxine Water’s name out of their mouths. There are more examples, but that’s not the point for today. The point is WE CAN (and should) share some love to the sisters fighting the good fight on Capitol Hill. Look up your members of Congress and post the following image (you can download it from here) on their Facebook page. Let them know that you appreciate their service and stand ready to support their efforts on your behalf.
Enjoy your day and remember it’s always nice to be nice!
In solidarity,
Stephanie McGencey, President/Founder
