Endings and Beginnings: WE CAN is STILL Here!

Sisters,
We are in for a wild ride. After the swearing-in tomorrow, I’ve read that the president-elect has over a hundred executive orders ready to go as part of a ‘shock and awe’ effort that will do everything from closing the U.S. – Mexico border, denying all asylum requests from immigrants along the southern border, launching mass deportation operations in every sanctuary city across the country, and levying a 25% tariff on all products arriving from Canada and Mexico (things like computers, car parts, gas, and even cattle).
We can expect the chaos that will begin on Monday, January 20th, to be our new normal for the next four years, with each day bringing attacks on life as we know it in the United States. Many folks are pontificating about what could happen and lamenting all the harm the incoming administration can do, but I assure you no one can anticipate the craziness we can expect, and I want to present a different approach.
There is no denying that things will be bad. But we cannot sink into despair to the point where we forget who we are. Women of color have been holding this country together for a long time. Our intelligence, hard work, and grace have been unappreciated, and that is not likely to change. Some of you have pledged to do nothing for the next four years. Some of you have pledged never to vote or otherwise engage in politics again. I respect these and any choices you have made to protect your peace.
Whatever your decision, I implore you to stay connected to WE CAN. If you can’t watch the news or otherwise follow what is happening here in Washington, DC, and believe me, I get it, and please continue to follow WE CAN. We pledge to continue to pay close attention to what is happening in our government and share ways to raise your voice and use your power—if you choose to engage.
Please complete the following anonymous survey to help WE CAN focus our efforts and monitor the activities you would monitor. The survey has only three questions, but there is space if you want to add more detail.

While you are resting, planning, reading, or vacationing, know that WE CAN will work on growing our community of sisters, focusing on what we want/need, and planning action you can take. For example, please see upcoming events and plug in when you are ready.
WE CAN will always be an advocate for women of color. We look forward to seeing you at upcoming WE CAN events!
In solidarity,

Stephanie McGencey, WE CAN Founder
