Do It For OUR Children!

Sisters,
By now, you’ve heard the news about the president’s plans to destroy education as we know it in the U.S. When you first heard the news about his plan to dismantle the Department of Education (ED), you were probably (like me) cursing and wondering WTF is wrong with this administration. Wondering when the attacks on women, people of color, children, low-income, veterans, and other vulnerable populations will end. You might have also told yourself I must do something about the Department of Education. But you got busy and didn’t get around to it. Or maybe you are one of the sisters resting, and you shrugged your shoulders, saying to yourself, “Let the ‘Find-Outs’ do something about it.”
Our education system is far from perfect, but it provides critical support to children attending schools in low-income areas, services for disabled children and youth, protections for ethnic and racial minorities, student loan programs so folks can go to college, and other important services.
I say this from the bottom of my heart: We must get to work and do our best to save the Department of Education (ED not DoE-the Department of Energy). Your righteous indignation is NOT going to protect OUR children from what will happen if ED is disbanded. Your laughter and criticism of the so-called ‘Find-Outs’ won’t make up for the budget shortfall when your school system loses millions of dollars.

TODAY WE MUST TAKE A STAND TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN! Don’t say I’ll do it later. DO IT NOW!
Send a letter ASAP to your members of Congress – your member of the U.S. House of Representatives and your two U.S. Senators.
Even if you don’t have children and youth in school/college, the impact of the executive order on education should cause you GREAT concern. Check out this cool tool from the Education Law Center where you see how much YOUR STATE will lose if the Department of Education goes away.

If you want more details about how bad life will be without ED, read these in-depth analyses by some very smart people who work every day to ensure that America’s children can learn.
