They Work For Us — It’s Time to Act Like It!

Sisters,
It is becoming clearer every day that some of the people representing us in Washington are WRONG for the job. They’re consistently making decisions that benefit the ultra-wealthy and people who do not look like us — leaving us to bear the consequences.
We have the power to change that, starting with primary elections happening right now, and again in November.
Do not be fooled by anyone telling you the primary doesn’t matter. Ask any woman of color who has ever appeared on a ballot how important it is for us to show up and vote for candidates who will actually govern in our interests.
We MUST study the candidates the same way we search for the perfect fit on Amazon. We MUST ask hard questions the same way we grill our children when we know they’ve done something wrong. And we MUST help our chosen candidate win — by donating, by rolling up our sleeves, and by showing up. The pathway to better elected officials begins with YOUR active participation.

I heard a phrase once that applies perfectly to our moment — If you can’t change the people, change the people. That’s exactly what this election season is asking us to do.
If you can’t change the people, CHANGE THE PEOPLE!
I’m not going to address the fact that some of you have already decided not to vote. I’ll leave it to others to try to convince you that staying home is not in your best interest. But don’t complain if you don’t participate in the process!
This November, more than 6,500 offices are on the ballot — all 435 seats in the U.S. House, 35 Senate seats, 36 governor’s races, and thousands of state legislative seats across 46 states. These are the people who decide what gets funded in your child’s school, what your healthcare costs, and whether your neighborhood gets invested in or left behind.
Most of us will have a chance to HIRE at least some of the folks who will work in our best interests. Let’s use it.

Ready to do more than vote? Come learn how campaigns actually get won.

Power, Purpose & the Polls: How Women of Color Help Win Campaigns ~ April 9th ~ 7:00 – 8:00 pm ET
Elections don’t just happen — they are built by people who show up. This one-hour training was designed specifically for Sisters of color who are ready to step into their power and learn what really happens behind the scenes of a political campaign. Whether you’ve never knocked on a door before or you’re curious about working on a campaign professionally, this workshop will give you the confidence and practical skills to get started.
You’ll learn how campaigns are structured and where you fit in, what campaign workers actually do day to day, how to talk to voters with clarity and confidence, how to protect yourself and the campaign, and how to turn your voice into real political impact.
You do not need prior experience. You do not need to be a policy expert. You do not need to be an extrovert. You just need the willingness to show up.
Women of color are the backbone of civic engagement — but too often we are left out of the strategy rooms where decisions are made. This training helps change that. If you’ve ever thought “I want to make a difference but don’t know where to start,” or “I’m ready to move from voter to leader” — this is for you.
Come learn. Come connect. Come build power.
In solidarity,
Dr. Stephanie, WE CAN Founder
