Get Involved! The 2026 Maryland General Assembly!

Sisters,
As you know, WE CAN is headquartered in Maryland. We often use our experiences in Maryland as an example of what is possible when we organize nationwide. This page is dedicated to residents of Maryland.
The Maryland General Assembly convenes for four months out of the year to make decisions and pass laws to help Marylanders live a better life. The 2026 session meets January 14 – April 13, 2026.
During this time, we have a responsibility to let the legislators (State Delegates and State Senators) understand how their decisions will impact us, our families, and our communities. Below is information about five (5) pieces of legislation that, if passed, will have a direct impact on women and girls of color.
Please take a moment to click the orange buttons to share your thoughts directly with the folks elected to SERVE YOU!
Use your voice! Make a difference!
In solidarity,
Dr. Stephanie, WE CAN Founder
P.S. If you have legislation you would like WE CAN to follow, please email us at info@womensequity.org!

Protect Our Right to Vote ~ Maryland Voting Rights Act of 2026.

Why You Should Care!
Our vote is our voice. But discriminatory practices can silence communities, especially communities of color. Maryland’s Voting Rights Act (HB219 | HB584 | SB255) would strengthen protections to ensure everyone can participate in our democracy.
Help Keep New Moms Safe – Support HB 0158!
Why Should You Care?
Too many Black mothers in Maryland aren’t making it home from the hospital, or are facing serious complications that could be prevented. HB 0158 would create a program to keep closer watch on moms who need extra care during and after pregnancy.

Help Survivors Escape Financial Abuse!

Why Should You Care?
Abusive partners often trap victims using debt – credit cards taken out in their name, loans they were forced to sign. HB 1198 would help survivors fight back and rebuild their financial lives.
No One Should Lose Their Home Without a Fair Fight!
Why You Should Care!
When landlords show up to eviction court with lawyers and tenants show up alone, it’s not a fair fight. SB 154 would make sure low-income tenants have lawyers too – because everyone deserves a real chance to keep their home.

Equal Reentry for Incarcerated Women!

Why Should You Care?
Maryland has multiple prerelease facilities that help incarcerated men prepare to come home – but none for women. HB 935 and SB 187 would finally create comprehensive rehabilitative prerelease services for women, giving them the same opportunities for successful reentry.
