Sisters,

As we head into one of the biggest shopping weeks of the year, we MUST remember that we have a real chance to make our dollars speak just as loudly as our votes. A national boycott called We Ain’t Buying It is asking people to pause spending at big retailers like Amazon, Home Depot, and Target from November 27–December 1 and support businesses owned by people of color instead.

Women of color make most of the buying decisions in our households. When we decide where to shop, companies notice. And while voting in elections is essential, the truth is our everyday spending is another kind of vote — one we cast over and over again.

This is our chance to say:

We want fairness. We want accountability. And we want businesses that value us, our families, and our communities.

Here’s how you can join the movement:

• Tell a friend or two. These things grow when we spread the word.
• Share your favorite POC-owned businesses on social media so others can find and support them.
• Keep asking yourself throughout the season: “Who am I supporting with my money?”

But First: Remember the Joy of the Season

Before we get swept up in the rush of sales, protests, and to-do lists, let’s pause and give thanks. This is a time to slow down, breathe deeply, and look around the table at the people we love. Notice the laughter, the warmth, the small moments that remind us why we fight so hard for our communities in the first place.

Let yourself soak up all the joy you can stand — the food, the stories, the music, the memories being made. There is power in rest, in gratitude, and in choosing to be fully present with our families and friends.

And once the dishes are washed and the leftovers are in the fridge, keep your eyes open for next Monday’s post. We’ll be sharing simple, meaningful ways we can take a stand for ourselves and our communities between now and the end of the year — actions that are grounded in love, power, and collective purpose.
